After completing
the readings and tutorials
this week as well as reflecting on my own personal experience in using
LiveBinders, three ideas for using LiveBinders for teaching and learning are
listed below:
Idea #1 for using
LiveBinders
One way that
LiveBinders could be used to facilitate teaching and learning in the classroom,
is by using LiveBinders to create a Science Fair portfolio. In my 5th grade science classroom,
during science fair, all students in 5th grade are required to type
all of their science fair materials when completing the scientific method
process. Therefore, I think it would be
neat to have all students create a Science Fair social bookmarking using LiveBinders
to keep all their material organized.
This will allow them to create a Science Fair portfolio that will make
all of their digital work easily accessible.
Idea #2 for using
LiveBinders
Another way that LiveBinders can be used in the classroom setting as a
way of learning would be to have students create their own LiveBinders after
each Unit is taught. This would be a great
way to complete a formative assessment on students’ learning. Students would all follow the classroom
requirements set forth in a teacher created LiveBinders rubric and would be
able to share their discoveries with each other in my 5th grade
science classroom.
Idea #3 for using
LiveBinders
A final way that LiveBinders can be used in teaching and
learning would include using LiveBinders to keep teachers and students
connected during absences. Through the use of LiveBinders, teachers and
students can continue to work with each other in an attempt to maintain communication
between teachers, students, and parents.
Not only could this approach benefit parents and students, but it could
prove to be beneficial to teachers as well.
This approach to using LiveBinders in the classroom setting would allow
teachers to continue classroom lessons and assignments whenever teachers are
out for in-service training, family emergencies, or personal/family
illness. While this approach would prove
to be very beneficial for my 5th grade science classroom, this idea
could be used at all levels of educational instruction and in all content
areas.
LiveBinders Activity
I created a LiveBinders page entitled
“Science Binder”. I thought this would
be a great binder that could be used in the classroom setting as an
instructional reinforcement Web 2.0 tool for those students who may need more
help with various concepts. There were
two main tabs create which were “Science Safety” and “Force and Motion”. Within each of these tabs, there were 3
additional sub tabs created for a web link, picture, and video which was
developed specifically to correlate to each topic. Please click on the link below to view my LiveBinders Page. :o)
Melissa,
ReplyDeleteHaving students create a Science fair binder with all the materials they used would be an easy way to have access whenever they need it. There is no risk of papers going missing. Having students create a LiveBinder after every unit is a great way of assessing their learning. I like that the students will be able to share their findings with their classmates.
Claudia,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments. I wish I had known about LiveBinders prior to starting my Science Fair projects this school year, but I am excited to use them next year in hopes of reducing the chaos of science fair papers. :o) I think that the use of social bookmarking will not only make my life easier, but also make parents and students lives easier as well. :o) Thank you again for your comments. :o)
All the best. :o)

Hi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI think that it is excellent to use live binders for the students in not just math but any subject. Being a mathematician myself i think that live binders would also be great for science because of the available tools that are present. You can add videos, website articles, and even change the security features of who can access the site. I think its great and i will definitely use it in my classroom.
Hi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI use Livebinders for my classroom and at first it was a bit difficult for my students to get used to it. I think that what helped a lot was that the student can add videos and internet articles and make good additions to the classroom so that the others can see, i recommend using it. I do however, also recommend that before using it in the classroom, experiment on it so that you are able to understand it 100%.
